Born in Yokohama, Megumi spent her childhood in India with her father, a broadcast journalist. She graduated with a degree in history at university, with the aim of becoming an archaeologist. However, after working in design industry and she thought, “I’d rather make a new world than dig up an old one.” On her travels to America and Europe, she was struck by the quality of the design, art, and museums, and she decided to study at an art college in the UK, and subsequently completed an MA in museum studies at UCL.
She took root in London, and began writing about the latest architecture and design in Europe, in the Japanese lifestyle magazine called 'Casa Brutus'. Since then, she has gone on to contribute articles to many Japanese and international publications for more than 20 years.
